Leaving from the Airport in Munich, April 13 2016

Hey everybody back home! I've finally made it to Central America and have already spent two exciting weeks in Panama and it has been a good time so far!
When I left home mid of April I flew from Munich to Toronto, where I had 18 hours stopover. Like this I was checking out the cold city, which I imagine to be a really cool place in summer.
The next day I flew into Panama City, a huge city with a impressive 'Miami looking like' skyline, but to be honest this is a surftrip - I left already the next day early morning and headed to Santa Catalina.

If you only have 3 mins then just check out this little video about my trip to Panama - here's the link:

Playa Santa Catalina

Santa Catalina is a really chilled and laid back place, only a few places with wifi and a lot of beautiful nature. And one sick wave - La Punta. When its on, it creates a perfect A-Frame wave providing a lot of righthanders and a couple of lefts. Rides up to 30 seconds and more are possible and it will get crowded, but everybody will get his waves due to its quality. When I wasn't surfing because of low tide (its a reef break) I was reading, eating mangos or coconuts from the trees or having dinner in one of the local restaurants, where they had great grilled fish.

Cebaco Island was most likely the hightlight of my trip so far and definitely the coolest thing in Panama. It is a lonesome island, only a couple of families live there and it has one surf spot nobody of us was really believing it could work perfectly. But in the end it did and it was such a cool adventure staying for two days on this island, eating freshly grilled fish, surfing empty waves, making bonfire and drinking rum and finally sleeping in hammocks or on our surfboard bags right on the beach. Unfortunately, I got really badly injured on my foot at the end of the first day, which made me being out of the water for a whole week! The following pictures show the boys (Hugh, Alan, Jarreth, Gerard and me) rocking this sick island!

Hugh waiting for our boat to arrive at Playa Santa Catalina - very early in the morning
Getting our surfboards and supply onto the boat
6:15 am - leaving Santa Catalina and heading to Isla Cebaco (1h)
Setting up our camp right on the beach
And gone surfing! No crowds at all!!!
Jarreth going for a 'Floater'
Alan sneaking into the 'Barrel'
Andi in a small righthand barrel
Hugh coming back with some fresh fish
Snapper and a Parrot Fish
Getting ready for lunch!
No words needed - but we ate warps with rice and fish and had cold beer on site!
Bonfire at night - and a bottle of rum

Hugh killing it again at low to mid tide
Back in Santa Catalina fishing mangos from the tree and relaxing after this epic trip
Next day heading off to Santiago with the boys and from there to Playa Morillo

Morillo is a very very remote and laid back place where you need to bring your own food, theres no wifi or mobile reception and the next village is half an hour away. Great and strong beachbreak barrels, working in an A-Frame and providing lefts and rights. Best to surf at mid tide +- 2 hours. In the end, I was resting a lot during the three days of my stay down there and tried to heal up my wound as best as possible. I got also some great shots of the boys and finished up another book. Great place to be and to stay except of sweating so much at night because of its crazy hot when it doesn't rain.

Hostal Villa Vento in Morillo - so much off the beaten track, had to bring food and the next town was half an hour away!
Curing my wound - lay days for me in Playa Morillo, even if I wanted it so badly to go back to the water ...
Remains of my sunburn in Santa Catalina
Rainy day but beautiful!
Playa Morillo - untouched paradise
Jarreth is crushing it another time

It gets so comfortable at night when the rain comes and the air cools down
Leaving with Greg, Cody and Grayson to a city called David in Western Panama
Stopover in Boquete (1200 meters of altidude) to let my wound heal better. Beautiful landscape but shitty town with only old american retirees. Lots of beautiful hikes up to the volcano and to waterfalls but due to my injury, I could not do that.

Last tuesday, I was going to Pavones, Costa Rica, which took me 5 buses and around 6-7 hours. A lot of confusion at the border due to passport stamps and other organization hassle. Finally I've made it and enjoy Pavones a lot - but thats another story and will get told in my next post.

Hope you're all doing well back home and hopefully summer will start soon in Europe!
Chilling with my 'Amigos' - the bus drivers - as I had to wait for my next bus. We were mostly talking about soccer what else :)

Aloha everyone!

For more than a years time, this blog hasn't been updated...

But I have a very understandable reason to publish another post, as a huge adventure is about to start.

In less than 4 days I'll be sitting in a plane leaving Munich with its final destination Panama City - Central America this time and all the way up until San Francisco!

To keep you always updated about this new adventure, I decided reactivating my old travel blog and rename it into 'surfandtraveltheworld'.

Bags are not yet packed, but my rough travel itinerary is already planned - I appreciate any recommendation for these countries, feel free to mail me!

As I'm still a bit sick and I need to prepare the rest of the voyage, this text ends right now - but don't worry I'll keep you updated!
